In a previous article, we introduced three TEDx Talks focused on professional development. As a reminder, the purpose of these conferences, led by experts from around the world, is to provide advice on various topics that affect us all.
Today, we present three more talks, this time centered on personality development, which will help you grow both personally and professionally.
Becoming Your True Self | Laurent Gounelle
Author Laurent Gounelle traveled to Marseille to share his vision of “being yourself.” He explains that when it comes to the question of our true identity, society has instilled several ways for us to define ourselves: by our name, our profession, or even our possessions. However, these representations of ourselves, while sometimes rewarding, actually distance us from who we truly are.
These are limitations because a person’s value extends far beyond such criteria. Even without owning anything, we still exist. “The less we know who we are, the more we want to exist.” This powerful statement illustrates how individuals cling to what validates them socially.
Thus, self-confidence develops by learning to embrace failure: our setbacks allow us to better understand ourselves and learn to value who we are, even when everything seems lost. It is a true journey of self-discovery, one that involves building enough confidence to detach from societal expectations and, as a result, become freer and more grateful for what we have.
Six Behaviors to Increase Your Confidence | Emily Jaenson
Studies show that we need to change certain behaviors to achieve our goals. Confidence is essential to pursuing one’s dreams.
Emily Jaenson became the first female general manager of a Triple-A baseball team and has hosted several podcasts highlighting women in a male-dominated industry. The key questions she asked herself to reach this level were: Who am I? Who do I want to become? How should I act to achieve this?
According to her, there are six key behaviors to adopt in order to reach your goals:
- Don’t back down from a challenge: count “3,2,1 go” and take the leap.
- Give yourself just 20 seconds of courage—that’s enough to push you forward.
- Take action and stop procrastinating.
- Confident people encourage others in their success—don’t feel threatened by the achievements of others.
- Boost your confidence by engaging in activities where you excel.
- Don’t forget to celebrate your achievements—be proud of yourself and what you’ve accomplished.
What could you achieve if you were ten times more confident?
Emotional Intelligence: Using the Laws of Attraction | D. Ivan Young
Emotional intelligence is about understanding your own feelings as well as those of the people around you. It also involves comprehending the situations you experience.
The law of attraction is based on the principle that we attract what we desire. Therefore, these two concepts—emotional intelligence and attraction—are closely linked.
D. Ivan Young explains that the more emotion and E-Motion we put into what we do, the better the results we achieve. It is not just about stating what would be ideal but about taking action. Our thoughts shape our actions, and our subconscious reveals what we truly want.
As a result, we must learn to prioritize proactivity over reactivity by taking the time to analyze each situation. It’s not just about seeing—it’s about truly understanding.
There are many ways to explore and develop your personality. Ultimately, it’s about being more aware of your surroundings and using them as a springboard for personal and professional growth.
