Changpeng Zhao, nicknamed CZ, is an iconic figure in the cryptocurrency world. His career has been marked by a meteoric rise in a constantly evolving sector, where he has succeeded in establishing Binance as the world’s leading cryptocurrency exchange platform.
Changpeng Zhao: the start of the Bitcoin adventure
Born in China’s Jiangsu province, CZ moved to Canada as a teenager with his family, in search of new opportunities. After graduating from McGill University with a degree in computer science, he began his career at Bloomberg as a software developer for trading systems. However, the traditional world of finance didn’t completely suit him. He left Bloomberg to launch his own high-frequency trading project, but it was his encounter with Bitcoin that marked a real turning point.
The discovery of Bitcoin and blockchain technology in 2013 was a revelation for CZ. Fascinated by the possibilities for decentralization and innovation offered by this new technology, he plunged into the world of cryptocurrencies, working first for Blockchain.info, then at OKCoin as CTO. These experiences provide him with an insight into the challenges and opportunities of the cryptocurrency market.
2017 : The dawn of Binance
In 2017, CZ founded Binance. From the outset, it’s clear that Binance is not just an exchange platform; it’s the start of a broader vision to reinvent financial services. The platform quickly takes off, attracting users from all over the world thanks to its cutting-edge technology, which enables fast and secure transactions, and a wide range of cryptocurrencies available for exchange. Binance quickly becomes the world’s largest platform in terms of transaction volume.
But CZ doesn’t stop there. He sees Binance as an engine for wider transformation. The platform launches its own token, the Binance Coin (BNB), which is used to pay transaction fees and as an investment instrument.
